Cultural Events

Talks and Conferences: The ASU Confucius Institute invites distinguished scholars and professionals to offer lectures and presentations on topics such as Chinese history, literature, and culture. 

Chinese Cultural Activities: As part of our cultural mission, the ASU Confucius Institute regularly presents artistic musical performances and other significant cultural events that showcase the visual and performing arts of China.  

Chinese Culture Contest and Classes: As part of the goal to encourage and to develop young Chinese language learners’ knowledge of China’s rich culture and history, the Institute hosts Chinese speech and writing competitions, photo and drawing contests and classes in calligraphy, Chinese knotting, traditional Chinese painting and crafts. 

School Presentations: The ASU Confucius Institute sends ASU students to K-12 schools as China Ambassadors to present information related to Chinese culture, geography and history.  Students also proffer presentations related to major Chinese holidays such as the ritual and traditions of the Chinese New Year and Moon Festival.

Here at the ASU Confucius Institute, we truly believe that images tell a thousand words - words that tell your story and the Arizona in your eyes. We invite you to share your personal visual depiction of Arizona. This contest is open to Grade 7 to 12 students in Arizona. Winning and outstanding photos will be exhibited at the National Day & Moon Festival Reception hosted by the ASU Confucius Institute and United Chinese Association of Arizona (UCAA) and ASU Chinese Students & Scholars Association. This event will be held in the Memorial Union Arizona Ballroom at the ASU Tempe Campus on Sunday, September 21, 2014.

All entries must be postmarked by September 5, 2014.

Sunday, September 21, 2014 - 3:30pm - 5:30pm

This Poster Design Contest “China in My Eyes” offers Grade 1-6 students a creative way to express their knowledge of China. Winning and outstanding artwork will be exhibited at the National Day & Moon Festival Reception hosted by the ASU Confucius Institute, United Chinese Association of Arizona (UCAA), and ASU Chinese Students & Scholars Association. This event will be held in the Memorial Union Arizona Ballroom at the ASU Tempe Campus on Sunday, September 21, 2014.

Friday, February 14, 2014 - 3:30pm

ASU faculty and students will celebrate the Chinese New Year on February 14. Student performances include skits, poem recital, and singing. There will be riddles, games, Chinese cultural booths at this event.
