Thursday, February 20, 2014 - 11:30am
LL 165 , ASU Tempe Campus

This talk will by presented by Dr. Xiaolu Wang of Sichuan University.

It focuses on how the traditional mono-Marxism, i.e. mainly translated from the former Russian’s interpretation and selection as the authentic dominant ideology for the study of both literature and art in mainland China, has been relocated, since the late 20th century, on the original Marxism, based on the direct translation from German. And what’s more, more neo-Marxist or post-Marxist theorists in both Europe and North America have been introduced together with other western cultural and literary theories as the important Western sources for theoretical discourse in the field of literary and cultural studies. Tracing such a clue, the speaker tries to demonstrate that the academic culture within mainland China has been under transformation with diversified sources toward its modernity in scholarship in both social sciences and the humanities.
