To create and support highly-effective teachers, ASU Confucius Institute (ASU CI) will host a K-12 Mandarin Teaching Competition. The competition has two main goals. First, to recognize and reward Mandarin teachers in Arizona who are using effective and innovative strategies in teaching Mandarin. Secondly, to make videos of these outstanding teachers, along with their unit plans and supplementary materials, available to all Arizona educators of Chinese.

Deadline for application is December 20, 2014.

Students who joined the Chinese Bridge Summer Camp will share their China experiences through photos, essays, and power points. There will be an exhibit of China photos and essays from the Photo and Writing Contests. Photo and writing competition awards will be announced at this event.

Confucius Day Chinese Dance & Art Festival

The Confucius Day Chinese Dance & Art Festival is a great event to experience Chinese arts and dance.

1:30pm Join us for the complimentary Chinese cultural activities, Chinese calligraphy and musical instrument demonstrations, and China photo exhibit.

4:00pm Experience an artistic performance of Chinese dance at the Chandler Center for the Arts. This is a lively show that the entire family will enjoy.

Please join the ASU Confucius Institute and the United Chinese Association of Arizona (UCAA) for the 8th Arizona Chinese National Day/Mid-Autumn celebration event. Winning and outstanding drawings and photos from two ASU CI contests will be exhibited at this celebration. There is also a photo exhibit on “Beautiful Arizona” which showcase a collection of Arizona photos of local photographers.

This Poster Design Contest “China in My Eyes” offers Grade 1-6 students a creative way to express their knowledge of China. Winning and outstanding artwork will be exhibited at the National Day & Moon Festival Reception hosted by the ASU Confucius Institute, United Chinese Association of Arizona (UCAA), and ASU Chinese Students & Scholars Association. This event will be held in the Memorial Union Arizona Ballroom at the ASU Tempe Campus on Sunday, September 21, 2014.

All entries must be postmarked by Sept. 5, 2014.

Here at the ASU Confucius Institute, we truly believe that images tell a thousand words - words that tell your story and the Arizona in your eyes. We invite you to share your personal visual depiction of Arizona. This contest is open to Grade 7 to 12 students in Arizona. Winning and outstanding photos will be exhibited at the National Day & Moon Festival Reception hosted by the ASU Confucius Institute and United Chinese Association of Arizona (UCAA) and ASU Chinese Students & Scholars Association. China

The 2014 Chinese Bridge Summer Camp is a 2-week program, starting on July 17 and ending on August 1, 2014.   Students will visit Beijing and one of the following cities: Tianjin, Henan, Shandong, Hunan, Zhejiang, Yunnan, and Jilin.  This summer camp is open to rising 9th -12th graders, ages 14-18, whose native language is not Chinese. Application Deadline:  All the application materials must be submitted by March 5, 2014.

In partnership with the School of Overseas Study at Sichuan University in China, the University of Washington, and the ASU Confucius Institute, ASU’s School of International Letters and Cultures offers an intensive eight-week summer Chinese language program at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.  In addition to rigorous language study, the program offers great opportunities to immerse oneself in the rich Sichuan culture through weekend excursions and visits to local historical sites. Students will be able to earn  one year of ASU’s Chinese language courses through 160 hours of classroom instruction and one-on-one tutoring.
