The ASU Confucius Institute and the School of International Letters and Cultures invite you to join us at a talk given by Professor Yin Hui of Hunan University.  China is renowned for valuing ritual and ceremonies since ancient times. Though ritual and music are still somewhat part of everyday life in China, the values espoused in earlier traditions are less apparent in modern society. During this talk, Dr. Yin will share her research on whether China might still be able to maintain and promote these earlier traditions, despite the current challenges posed by global interactions.

Dr. Hui’s research focuses on conceptions of Ritual during the Song dynasty (960-1279), especially in the context of the Song philosophers’ commentaries on the Confucian Ritual Classics.  Dr. Yin has published over 12 articles on topics related to “The Structure of Zhu Xi’s Thought on Ritual and its Modern Implications,” in Chen Lai, et. al., eds., Renwen yu jiazhi (Humanity and Values) and “The Establishment of the Studies on the Four Booksduring the Song as Viewed from the Development of the Northern Song School of Mind and Human Nature.”  Her forthcoming book is about Zhu Xi’s thought on the Ritual Classics.
