Over the past fifteen years, Chinese immersion programs have grown tremendously throughout the nation. Many parents opt for enrolling their children into these programs; yet, they often will have numerous questions that go unanswered with their leap of faith in the programs. In this evening's program "Why a K-12 Commitment to Mandarin Immersion?", Michael Bacon will address some frequently asked questions from parents of students in the Chinese immersion programs in the United States. Michael currently works inQ Portland Public Schools (PPS) as the Assistant Director of the Department of Dual Language overseeing program, professional and curriculum development for 15 dual language immersion (DLI) programs across 26 schools K-12. Michael is also on the advisory committee for the Asia Society's national networking effort called Chinese Early Learning Immersion Network (CELIN) and the Board of Directors for the ACTFL.
